Part 1: Choices Survey

In the previous “Launch Survey” we asked some general questions. This Choices Survey takes a deeper dive into specific issues.

What area of the city are you most interested in?

Hamilton County has been divided into thirteen areas for planning purposes and eight of these areas are within the city. These eight areas are the focus of Plan Chattanooga. Which area are you most interested in? It is probably the area you live in, but it could be another area where you spend time or own a business or other property.

Mark that area in the list below. You will be asked to think about this area in the next questions.

WHAT IS SCENARIO PLANNING?

Scenario planning is a way to think about different futures for Chattanooga and Hamilton County. Plan Chattanooga is using a scenario planning process to consider hypothetical growth patterns in Chattanooga and Hamilton County and how that growth might impact the quality of our neighborhoods, corridors and other places, the cost of infrastructure, economic progress and more.

Part 3: Mapping Preserve, Grow, or Change

Focus on your area of the city. Mark places where you’d like to…

PROTECT (don’t change what’s there)

  • Natural features or areas
  • Places with historic or cultural significance
  • Places that are great the way they are today

GROW (enhance and strengthen what’s there)

  • Good examples of recent development
  • Places appropriate for growth in the existing pattern
  • Improve existing parks or add greenway connections
  • Where sidewalks or other infrastructure should be improved

CHANGE (replace with something new and different)

  • Places where current land use or character should change
  • Places for new or revitalized Commercial Centers
  • Places for new housing or neighborhoods
  • Amenities that are needed
